CS:GO weapon wear rate

The quality of CS:GO skins

In CS:GO, “weapon wear” refers to the condition of the weapon skin, which is fixed when the skin is dropped or unboxed and cannot change over time or with use. The condition of the skin affects the aesthetic appearance of the skin, but does not affect gameplay mechanics.

The possible conditions are, from best to worst:

  1. Factory New (FN): The skin looks as clean as possible, with minimal scratches or abrasions.
  2. Minimal Wear (MW): The skin has very few scratches or abrasions.
  3. Field-Tested (FT): The skin has a moderate amount of scratches or abrasions.
  4. Well-Worn (WW): The skin has many scratches or abrasions.
  5. Battle-Scarred (BS): The skin has a lot of scratches or abrasions, and it can look quite worn down and used.

Again, it’s worth mentioning that these conditions are assigned to the skin when it is dropped or unboxed and cannot be changed by any action of the player. The skin will not degrade or improve over time or use, and it is purely cosmetic, not affecting gameplay.

CS:GO skins

Factory New (FN)

“Factory New” is a term used in Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (CS:GO) to refer to the best possible condition of a weapon skin. A skin in “Factory New” condition will have almost no signs of wear, tear, or scratches and will appear as if it just came out of the factory.

It’s important to note, however, that there can still be a small amount of variance within the Factory New condition, due to what’s known as a “float value”.

This is a hidden statistic that ranges from 0 to 1 and determines the exact wear on a skin. For Factory New skins, the float value usually ranges from 0.00 to 0.07, with 0.00 being the least worn and therefore more valuable in the marketplace.

In the context of CS:GO’s trading and marketplace, Factory New skins are typically more desirable due to their pristine condition and can be sold for higher prices compared to skins in other conditions. This applies to both in-game trading and trading through external platforms or marketplaces. But remember, these conditions are purely cosmetic and have no impact on the actual gameplay.

Minimal Wear (MW)

“Minimal Wear” (MW) is a term used in Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (CS:GO) to describe the second-best condition a weapon skin can be in. Skins with a Minimal Wear condition exhibit very few signs of wear, tear, or scratches. They are generally very clean, but not quite as flawless as Factory New skins.

Like other skin conditions, Minimal Wear is determined by a “float value,” a hidden statistic that ranges from 0 to 1. For Minimal Wear skins, the float value typically ranges from 0.07 to 0.15. The lower the float value, the less wear the skin shows, so a Minimal Wear skin with a float value closer to 0.07 would look cleaner than one closer to 0.15.

In terms of trading and the marketplace, Minimal Wear skins are less valuable than Factory New skins, but still more valuable than the other lower condition skins. As always, it’s important to remember that skin conditions are purely cosmetic and do not impact gameplay.

Field-Tested (FT)

“Field-Tested” (FT) is a term used in Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (CS:GO) to describe a mid-tier condition a weapon skin can be in. A skin with a Field-Tested condition shows a moderate amount of wear and tear, such as scratches and other minor cosmetic damage.

The degree of wear is determined by the skin’s “float value,” a hidden statistic that ranges from 0 to 1. For Field-Tested skins, the float value typically ranges from 0.15 to 0.38. A lower float value indicates less wear, so a Field-Tested skin with a float value closer to 0.15 will appear in better condition than one closer to 0.38.

In terms of trading and the marketplace, Field-Tested skins are usually less valuable than Factory New or Minimal Wear skins, but can still fetch a decent price depending on the rarity of the skin and its popularity among players. As with all skin conditions, remember that this is purely a cosmetic feature and does not affect gameplay in any way.

Well-Worn (WW)

“Well-Worn” (WW) is a term used in Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (CS:GO) to describe the condition of a weapon skin that’s significantly worn. A skin with a Well-Worn condition shows substantial wear and tear, such as numerous scratches and other cosmetic imperfections.

As with other conditions, the exact degree of wear is determined by the skin’s “float value,” a hidden decimal number between 0 and 1. For Well-Worn skins, the float value usually ranges from 0.38 to 0.45. The lower the float value within this range, the less wear the skin exhibits. Therefore, a Well-Worn skin with a float value closer to 0.38 will look better than one closer to 0.45.

In the CS:GO marketplace, Well-Worn skins are generally less valuable than Factory New, Minimal Wear, or Field-Tested skins. However, the price can still vary significantly depending on the specific skin and its demand within the community. As with all skin conditions, it’s important to remember that this is purely a cosmetic attribute and has no impact on the functionality of the weapon in the game.

Battle-Scarred (BS)

“Battle-Scarred” (BS) is a term used in Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (CS:GO) to describe the worst condition a weapon skin can be in. A skin with a Battle-Scarred condition shows extensive signs of wear and tear, such as heavy scratches and other significant cosmetic damage.

As with other conditions, the exact degree of wear is determined by the skin’s “float value,” a hidden decimal number that ranges from 0 to 1. For Battle-Scarred skins, the float value usually ranges from 0.45 to 1.0. The lower the float value within this range, the less wear the skin exhibits, so a Battle-Scarred skin with a float value closer to 0.45 will look better than one closer to 1.0.

In the CS:GO marketplace, Battle-Scarred skins are typically the least valuable due to their worn appearance. However, the price can still vary depending on the specific skin and its rarity. As with all skin conditions, remember that this is purely a cosmetic attribute and does not impact the functionality of the weapon in the game.
